Spare ribs

  1. Heat your oven to 150C/130C fan/gas mark 2.

  2. Even though the oven is warming, peel and approximately chop the onion. Then peel and crush the garlic in a garlic crusher.

  3. Location a frying pan over a medium heat till it is hot, then add the olive oil, onion and garlic. Fry for four to five minutes or till the onion has softened.

  4. Add the chilli (if employing), fennel seeds and brown sugar and cook, stirring, for a additional 1 to two minutes till the sugar has melted.

  5. Include the tomato ketchup and soy sauce and stir everything with each other. Deliver to the boil, then minimize the heat and simmer for ten minutes, till the sauce thickens up.

  6. Put the ribs into a deep-sided roasting tray and pour over the sauce.

  7. Cover the tray with foil and place it into the oven for 2 hrs, then boost the oven temperature to 180C/160C fan/fuel mark 4, take away the foil and cook for thirty to 45 minutes more.

  8. After cooked, take away the tray from the oven and let the ribs cool down so they are not too sizzling to manage prior to serving.

  9. Serve with plenty of paper napkins since sticky fingers are guaranteed!
